REGISTER
8.3-8.4 2007

"Register deals with the making of Register, the ideas I've had and situations I have found my self in during the course of work. In a way one could say that what's going on in the images, what is depicted, is an adaptation of different events in my studio and of my ideas and thoughts."
This is how Carl Hammoud describes Register in an early draft, an exhibition that could be seen as a reflection of the process of making it.
Since his debut at Galleri Magnus Karlsson, Carl Hammoud has participated in numerous group exhibitions and fairs in Europe and in the US. He now returns with a series of paintings and drawings where he continues to explore the characteristic imagery he has been working on the last few years. The paintings depict fictitious office spaces that are dramatically illuminated and has an exaggerated sense of presence. These enviroments recur in the drawings that are populated with characters in what appears to be everyday situations.
The title Register, as all titles of the work, is readable both in English and in Swedish. One way to read the word Register would be as "to register something", which might bring us closer to what the starting point of the exhibition is.

Carl Hammoud, b.1976, lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
Education at Valand Academy of Fine Arts in Gothenburg 1999-2004
